The stand alone models can be very nice if you want just a bit more counter top space. Also, you can put a countertop microwave on the dishwasher as you know that you already have the electrical outlet available. Stand alone dishwashers are particularly handy if you spill something as they roll for easy cleaning.

Sometimes appliance manufacturers allow for discounts if you buy more than one appliance from them. For example, if you are looking at a GE range and refrigerator, check out a ge microwave for an even deeper discount.
